A gear coupling is a mechanical device for transmitting torque between two shafts that are not coaxial. A gear coupling that utilizes a sleeve is considered a flexible coupling, as they allow for some degree of misalignment between shafts. A complete gear coupling consists of at least two hubs, and if flexible at least one sleeve. They are available in numerous configurations, such as rigid, flex-rigid, and flex- flex. Gear couplings are available in a multitude of sizes and styles dependent on the application. They are called gear couplings because the sleeves have the outward appearance of a gear. The teeth have high backlash, which allows for the angular misalignment capabilities of a flexible gear coupling. Gear couplings have high torque capabilities and can be found in almost any heavy manufacturing operation.
Universal Driveshaft & Prop Shafts
Universal driveshafts are also known as propshafts, cardan shafts and universally jointed shafts but fundamentally they are all the same thing. They normally incorporate two universal joints or hookes joints at either end of a tubular shaft which also has a telescopic spline section incorporated into it to allow for length compensation.
The two universal joints ensure constant velocity whilst running at an angle provided that the angles are equal at both ends. There are limitations to the speed at which they can operate which is dependent on the angle they are operating at. There are also limitations on the operating speed which is dependent on the length of the shaft which has to operate well below the critical speed of the shaft in question. We can assist in the correct selection of suitable shafts for your application.
We engineer and manufacture high performance driveshafts and drivelines to most configurations and specifications with either S.A.E., D.I.N. or KV flanges. We also offer our driveshafts with mechanics type joints.

Our range of Companion Flanges are offered to suit both SAE and DIN Flanges and can be supplied as individual components or as assemblies with Universal Driveshafts and all necessary fixings.

Our companion flanges can be supplied either pilot bored or bored and keywayed. We can offer a variety of bores including taper bores and taper keyways. We can also provide companion flanges prepared for shaft locking bushes and modified to accept brake discs.
We offers a comprehensive precision cut and ground gear range and can gear hob up to 1200 mm diameter with a maximum face width of 500 mm. We can also gear hob spur gears and both single and double helical gears (also referred to as herringbone gears). Maximum pitch 18 module or 1.411 DP.
We have a comprehensive range of hobs suitable for either DIN or BS standard gears. All our vertical gear hobbing machines have crowning attachments and we have a wide range of cams available.
